When I discovered I was pregnant with our second child, I pulled out the storage bin containing the maternity clothes from my first pregnancy and was instantly depressed. She Trades Dress For Jeans & A Tee. After nine months of wearing a Diane von Furstenberg maternity wrap dress and Lilly Pulitzer maternity shift in heavy rotation - and I mean heavy in every sense - I couldn't face another pregnancy in these same few outfits.
But at $300 for designer maternity dresses I would wear another half a year at most, I wasn't prepared to splurge on an entirely new pregnancy wardrobe. Fortunately, the sartorial landscape for pregnant women continues to change - for the better. A mother-to-be can pick up a couple of fashionable dresses and supplement with items from chains such as H&M or Zara. And staying stylish doesn't always mean shopping in the maternity section.
"The most important thing to remember when dressing while pregnant is to not limit yourself," says stylist and Bravo TV star Brad Goreski, who dressed a pregnant Jessica Alba last summer. Goreski encourages his clients to shop nonmaternity collections, looking for stretchy or flowing fabrics. "Play with shape and proportion," he says. "If you are going to wear a flowy top, try putting a more fitted piece over it like a blazer or a leather jacket. If you are going to wear a maxi dress, try edging it up with a leather vest or a great statement necklace."

Today's slimmer silhouette in menswear-which is already challenging for a lot of men to get used to-is even more challenging for big guys because many contemporary collections don't carry trendy styles in extended sizes. No one knows this more than Rachel Johnson, stylist and co-founder of the Thomas Faison Agency, whose clients include pro basketball stars LeBron James and Amar'e Stoudemire.Big and tall guys should start with menswear specialists that will have clothes long enough for their arms and legs, such as Rochester Big and Tall, Casual Male and Destination XL, she says.
For men who insist on trendy sportswear-which is harder to find than suits-"it takes a lot of time and effort to get dressed," she says. "I can't overemphasize the importance of finding one good tailor" to do the extensive alterations required for you to achieve the proper fit and silhouette. Ms. Johnson has even enlisted skilled tailors to copy some trendy designer items in smaller sizes and interpret them for her athlete clients.
Big and tall men should stick with shirts with numbered neck and sleeve lengths instead of going with Large, XL or XXL, which will result in a shirt that's too big everywhere. But even off-the-rack shirts require tweaking to streamline them, such as adding two darts in back to taper the fit, she says. It's easier with long-sleeved knitwear like fine cashmere sweaters, she notes, which can be steamed and blocked to stretch to fit. (A professional tailor can probably do a better job than you can at home.)

Today, Gap's challenge is mostly same -- being fashionable without alienating its khaki-loving base. "If we move towards super-trendy, off-the-runway, it's not going to feel appropriate," said Breitbard. "And if it's too basic, it's going to feel boring."For every fashion-forward shopper like Winsky who loves the new eye-catching colors, there's another who thinks they are unwearable. "Popular or not Worst jeans , colored jeans are still a little too bright and funky for me," said Lin Shackleford, 29, a blogger who works in a government office in Orange County, Calif.
In Lin's office, colored jeans are the only kind allowed by the dress code. Even still, "I don't think I could pull them off," she said.To some, a cooler image isn't worth the price. Over the past year, Gap has attempted to wean itself from discounts and promotions in order to elevate its brand image. Along the way, it has also alienated some customers, such as Charlotte Stone, who said she was shocked to find a pair of premium jeans costing $69 at a New York City Gap store two weeks ago.
"I was leaving work to go out and I wanted to grab some cute skinny jeans on the go," the 22-year-old PR assistant said. "Tried some on, good fit, good wash. But they were paper-thin. When I checked the tag and saw $69 I was so taken aback I left the store without even bothering to look for sale jeans.Janet Kloppenburg, an analyst at JKK Research, said Gap's colored jeans and its transformation came sooner than she expected. Gap "identified a trend and were on it more than their competitors," she said. Typically, retailers take more than a year to make such changes, she said.

Esquire magazine knows a thing or two about men's fashion, which makes their verdict on Rick Santorum all the more brutal.A review of Santorum's sartorial choices declared him to have "the worst pair of jeans that has ever been seen on a man's legs in America.""Sure, we've lambasted Mitt Romney time and again for choosing denim when campaigning to run our entire country, but Rick Santorum's pants here, from a day campaigning in Wisconsin, are just an affront to his constituency," writes the magazine.

The Board of Education voted in favor of a dress code amendment that would prevent middle and high school students from wearing clothing that's too tight-fitting.Subcommittee members say they had to change an earlier version of the dress code change after realizing that it could have banned popular clothes including skinny jeans and "jeggings."The proposed policy change would prohibit form-fitting clothing that's too tight and reveals body parts or undergarments.
